      Humanities Symposium 2020: Wounds of War

      Phil Klay, a U.S. Marine Corp veteran and award-winning author of Redeployment, will deliver the keynote address, “War, Literature and the Long Road Home.” at Loyola University Maryland’s Humanities Symposium 2020.

      Free and open to the region’s academic communities and the general public, this lecture will provide a lively forum for discussing wounded warriors and the longstanding tradition of literature that pays witness to war's impact on the battlefield and beyond.

      Selected as one of the 10 Best Books of the Year by the New York Times. Redeployment comprises 12 short stories focusing on front-line and home-front experiences of Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans. The book has won many awards, including the National Book Award for Fiction, Marine Corps Heritage Foundation’s James Webb Award, National Book Critics’ Circle John Leonard Award for best debut work in any genre, American Library Association’s W.Y. Boyd Literary Award for Excellence in Military Fiction, Chautauqua Prize and Warwick Prize for Writing.

      An alumnus of Dartmouth University (undergrad) and Hunter College (MFA), Klay currently teaches fiction at Fairfield University. His writing appears widely in the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal and Newsweek, among others.
